Five ways to use practice questions well

Practice questions are the fastest way to find out what you do not know yet. Here is how to get the most from them.

Reading notes feels productive, but it is answering questions that shows you what has actually stuck. Here are five habits that make practice questions work harder for you.

1. Read the explanation even when you were right

A correct answer can be a lucky guess or the right answer for the wrong reason. The explanation tells you the rule behind the question. If the explanation surprises you, mark the lesson for a re-read.

2. Use study mode first, exam mode later

Study mode shows the answer after each question, which is what you want while you are learning a module. Exam mode hides the answers until the end and runs against the clock. Switch to it once a module feels familiar, not before.

3. Drill the questions you missed

After a practice exam, go straight to the missed questions. They are a precise list of the gaps in your knowledge. Keep drilling them until you can explain why each correct answer is correct.

4. Do not skip the key terms

Many exam questions turn on a definition: what counts as a registrant, what an easement is, which Act applies. The key terms drill gives you a description and asks for the term. It takes a few minutes and catches confusion between similar terms before the exam does.

5. Watch the module breakdown, not the total

A total score of 80% can hide a 50% in Module 6, and Module 6 is the largest part of the course. Your results by module tell you where the next hour of study should go. Let them decide.
